The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine hosts “Leprosy: The Separating Sickness,” a compelling showcase that provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of patients at the Carville National Leprosarium in Louisiana. The exhibit is on display in the Diboll Gallery and Auditorium through Feb. 7, 2024, featuring photographs by photographer and artist Johnny P. Harmon, who lived at the facility with his wife. The collection of photographs and other memorabilia is a poignant tribute to a bygone era when leprosy, now known as Hansen’s disease, led to the isolation of those afflicted. This remarkable exhibition is sponsored by The Friends of Carville Historic District through funding from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. On Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m., Thomas A. LaVeist, dean of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and Dr. Rie Yotsue, associate professor of tropical medicine, will speak at an opening reception. Read more about the exhibit at the SPHTM website or the Wavesync event page.
