The U.S. Economic Development Administration announced that Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propeller, a consortium that includes Tulane University, is one of 31 newly designated Tech Hubs. The consortium will support the development of offshore wind energy production in Louisiana, bolstering the state’s leadership role in traditional and emerging renewable energy production. Scientists, researchers and scholars from Tulane’s School of Science and Engineering, the A. B. Freeman School of Business and the Tulane Center for Energy Law will all play a role in the Tech Hub.

Award-winning author Rich Cohen, a Tulane alumnus, will read from his new book When The Game Was War: The NBA’s Greatest Season on Monday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glazer Family Club in Yulman Stadium. Cohen will be in conversation with Tulane English Professor and Director of Creative Writing Thomas Beller, answering an array of questions about the book as well as his journey to becoming an author. The book is described on Cohen’s website as “gritty, no-holds-barred account of the 1987 NBA season, a thrilling year of fierce battles and off-the-court drama between Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan.” Pizza and soft drinks will be served. Enjoy a fast-paced hour of comedy when the Tulane Department of Theatre and Dance will open “Ubu Roi” on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Lupin Theatre in the Dixon Hall Performing Arts Center. The play runs through Sunday, Nov. 12, with both evening and matinee times available. It is directed and adapted by Professor Antony Sandoval and stars Tulane sophomore Sydney Schneider as Ubu. The “causal relationship between fluoride exposure and neurotoxicity remains unclear,” says lead study author Tewodros Godebo, assistant professor of environmental health sciences at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, but he hopes these preliminary findings will spur more research into the potential cognitive impacts of fluoride exposure.
