Tulane officials gathered at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge last week for a day of festivities, meetings and proclamations, all designed to celebrate Tulane’s contributions to the state and beyond. The event — Tulane Day at the Capitol — was a chance for Tulanians to meet with lawmakers and state officials to discuss all the ways Tulane and the state can benefit from each other’s support.

Gabby Evans, a senior majoring in public health and French, independently completed a semester abroad in France, Morocco and Senegal via Academic Programs Abroad. Resident Appreciation Week

Dr. Ryan Glynn, a neurosurgery resident at the School of Medicine, and President Michael A. Fitts chat at last week’s “MikeDrop,” which took place in the Murphy Building lobby on the downtown campus. The event, which featured lunch, kicked off Resident Appreciation Week to celebrate and show gratitude to medical residents and fellows.

The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design, the community-design center of the School of Architecture, is accepting requests for proposals from New Orleans nonprofit and community-based organizations for pro-bono design services. The School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM) will host “Climate Change and Health: A Symposium on Community, Research, Design and Action” on Tuesday, April 2, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in the school’s Diboll Auditorium. The symposium will feature public health researchers in several disciplines as well as community groups and architecture faculty discussing the current climate and how to proceed. Dr. Shauna Levy, medical director of Tulane’s Bariatric and Weight Loss Center, says the benefits of a popular weight loss drug could outweigh the risks, particularly for reducing cardiovascular disease. Levy advises people taking the drug to continue exercise and strength training to minimize muscle loss.
