Tulane bestows 2020 teaching awards on four faculty members

Four Tulane faculty members received university-wide teaching awards — two Suzanne and Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellows Awards for Undergraduate Teaching, and two President’s Awards for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching.

Spieker Prize awarded to graduate Lilian Maldonado-Garcia

Lilian Maldonado-Garcia, a recent School of Professional Advancement graduate, received the Dr. Gisela Spieker Prize, a $500 award presented to an outstanding first-generation college graduate. Maldonado-Garcia was also named to the 2020 class of Tulane 34, the university’s most exclusive student honor.

Tulane-led study evaluates Medicare payment model for cancer treatment

Brigham Walker, research assistant professor in the Department of Health and Policy Management at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, analyzed a payment and delivery model for Medicare patients undergoing cancer treatment to see if the model changed care management decisions and reduced costs in some cancers.

Student spearheads hospitality relief efforts

Sarah Manowitz, School of Professional Advancement student and general manager at Oz, the largest LGBTQ+ nightclub and show bar in the Gulf South, spearheaded the creation of a “virtual tip jar,” allowing patrons to make cash contributions to servers, bartenders and other hospitality workers. She and Tulane alumnus Reed Wendorf also created a meal assistance program.

2020 TUPD annual bike roundup

Members of the Tulane University Police Department will remove bicycles that are locked to bicycle racks, trees, etc. on the uptown campus May 29, 30 and 31 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. Students, faculty and staff should not allow their bicycles to remain on campus overnight during this time frame. If a bicycle must be left on campus overnight, please mark it as being in use by wrapping brightly colored ribbon on the handlebars. Due to COVID-19, bicycles removed will be held for an extra 90 days after the fall semester begins, giving owners more time to reclaim them. For more information, click here.
