As part of its commitment to creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive community, Tulane University has joined Universities Studying Slavery (USS), a consortium of more than 90 institutions worldwide that are researching the impacts of slavery, segregation and racial inequity on their institutional histories.

Olan Jackson-Weaver, assistant professor of surgery at the School of Medicine, and a team of researchers have uncovered the cause of coagulopathy, the blood’s inability to clot, in trauma victims receiving a blood infusion. The School of Social Work will host its final Elk Place Health Spot until the fall 2023 semester on Tuesday, June 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at the school, located at 127 Elk Place. The session, titled “Defining Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Academia and Beyond,” will feature a panel discussion on the meaning of equity, diversity and inclusion for Tulane, the School of Social Work, the New Orleans community and other organizations. Panelists include Anneliese Singh, associate provost for faculty development and diversity and chief diversity officer at Tulane; Cecilia Suarez, associate dean of EDI and Student Experience at the School of Social Work; Anamaria Villamarin-Lupin, deputy director of programs for the Office of Youth and Families, Dr. LaKisha Mamon, director of child and youth services at Metropolitan Human Services District, and Pharissa Robinson of DePaul Community Health Center.
