It is with sadness that we write to inform you of the recent passing of James Kilroy. From 1984 to 1996, Jim served Tulane as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, dean of the faculty of liberal arts and sciences, and provost, and he remained a member of the English Department until his retirement in 2004 at which time he was awarded emeritus status. We have heard from many of you about the extraordinary role he played in enhancing Tulane, pointing out that he led efforts – on diversity and equity, and community engagement, for example – that created a foundation for work that continues to define the institution. It is fitting that we take a moment to remember someone who played a singular role in creating the Tulane of today in which we all take so much pride. Anyone who ever met Jim was deeply and immediately impressed by his love of Tulane, the academic enterprise, and New Orleans. Please take a moment to read the remembrance written by Michael Kuczynski and Dennis Kehoe. We are grateful to Mike and Dennis for sharing their thoughts with us. To read the remembrance
