Dr. Flor Alvarado, assistant professor of nephrology and hypertension at the School of Medicine, has been named a 2022 Health Disparities Research Institute scholar of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. The program prepares junior investigators in becoming independent researchers. Alvarado aims to develop community-based interventions to improve kidney and cardiovascular outcomes in historically underserved populations.

Research by Diego Rose, professor of nutrition and food security at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, is making science more palatable for kids. Rose and his colleagues’ work on how to make diets more planet-friendly is included in the Science Journal for Kids, which makes science accessible and easy to read for students, from kindergarten through high school. The team’s research was translated into a colorful article with graphics, key points, discussion questions and a glossary. Read More
