Namita Rout, assistant professor of microbiology and immunology at the Tulane National Primate Research Center, will examine how changing the gut microbiome may ease chronic inflammation and associated gastrointestinal issues for people taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV — a treatment that helps people living with HIV live extended, healthy lives. The research is funded by a $3.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Alex Sheehan, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine student, has been selected to the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholars Program, a leadership development program for second-year underrepresented doctoral students who seek to apply their research to advancing health and equity. The New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University will host nationally bestselling and critically acclaimed authors Walter Isaacson and Michael Lewis at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in McAlister Auditorium. The award-winning authors will discuss their newest works — Isaacson’s biography Elon Musk, released on Sept. 12, and Lewis’ portrait of Sam Bankman-Fried titled Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon, to be released Oct. 3.
