Tulane researcher studies ‘dark matter of genomes’

The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation recently awarded Tulane Cancer Center researcher Victoria Belancio, PhD, a three-year, $150,000 grant to support her investigations into rarely studied genetic elements that contribute to cancer.

Lt. Gen. David Berger, who earned an engineering degree from Tulane in 1981, has been tapped to lead the U.S. Marine Corps. Read more about Berger at the Tulane Naval ROTC Alumni Association website.

N. K. Jemisin: Zale-Kimmerling Writer-in-Residence

N. K. (Nora) Jemisin graduated from Newcomb College in 1994. She writes speculative fiction, including novels, multi-book series and short stories. In 2016, she became the first African-American writer to win the Best Novel Hugo Award for The Fifth Season. In 2018, she was the first author to win three Hugos in a row for her Broken Earth trilogy. Jemisin will read from her work Monday at 7 p.m. in the Kendall Cram Room in the Lavin-Bernick Center.
