Are you the voice of Greenie?

Are you the voice of Greenie?

The image of Greenie appeared on Tulane University football programs for 20 years. Now Tulane is looking for someone to become the voice of Greenie.

The start of a new school year is always a spirited time at Tulane University, but this year, excitement is at a fever pitch with the opening of Yulman Stadium on Sept. 6. When Green Wave football returns to campus for the first time in 40 years, with it comes the return of many traditions, like tailgating beneath the oak trees, pep rallies on the quad and Greenie!

Greenie is a mischievous little character who first appeared in 1945. Created by John Churchill Chase, a New Orleans writer and illustrator, Greenie was featured on the cover of Tulane football programs for 20 years, and caused all sorts of trouble for opposing teams.

In 2014, we are making new traditions by building state-of-the-art athletics facilities and joining a new conference, but we are embracing our past, as well. When Yulman Stadium opens, Greenie will be there, bringing a special brand of Green Wave spirit to fans young and old. You could make history by being the new voice of Greenie!

To enter the contest, call 504-865-4444 and leave your best Greenie cheer at the beep. The winner will record some voice-overs for web and radio — and you"ll win some Green Wave gear, too! Recite the Hullabaloo Cheer, give us a “Roll Wave!” or any creative cheer that you think sounds like Greenie! Submissions will be published on Tulane-affiliated social media.
