Luminescent specimen

A visitor to the Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection, housed within the Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute, examines a specimen during a workshop hosted by A Studio in the Woods, “Fishes: Masters of Adaptation – Workshop and Tour of the Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection.”  The workshop was part of a collaborative project, “Searching for the Ghosts of the Gulf,” with artist and biologist Brandon Ballengée, A Studio in the Woods and the Plaquemines Parish government. The collection is the largest of its type in the world. Over 7 million specimens have been recorded at the site with the majority of the collection being from freshwater river basins in the Gulf-South region.
