Super Sunday showdown

On Sunday, Feb. 7, New Orleanians will be faced with a difficult decision. Locals can spend their evening watching the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 at 5:30 p.m., or they can scope out a spot on the neutral ground as the 2016 Krewe of Bacchus rolls through uptown beginning at 5:15 p.m.

“I’m going to watch the game, because we have two alumni who are playing for the Broncos,” says Green Wave football defensive end Ade Aruna. Aruna is referring to cornerbacks Taurean Nixon and Lorenzo Doss.

Tulane alumnus and Technology Connection staff member Kyle Gordon has other plans. “I’ll be on the parade route,” he says.

Gordon will be joining crowds eager to grab throws from the parade’s signature super-floats (like The Bacchasaurus) and catch a glimpse of Bacchus’ celebrity monarch. The Avengers actor and native New Orleanian Anthony Mackie will make history as the first African-American to reign as Bacchus XLVIII.
