Tulane School of Medicine Faculty Announcements

At Tulane University Commencement 2019, Associate Professor of Medicine Chayan Chakraborti, MD, who is also vice chair for education and director of student programs, received a President’s Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching, which is given to faculty members who have a sustained and compelling record of excellence in teaching and learning and an ongoing commitment to educational excellence.

Marc Kahn, MD, MBA, Peterman-Prosser Professor and senior associate dean, has been elected to the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London (RCP London). Founded in 1518, the RCP is the oldest medical college in England. Fellowship in the college is a prestigious accolade; fellows assist with the RCP’s objective of shaping public health by promoting and improving patient-centered care, influencing the healthcare agenda, and improving standards in clinical practice. Candidates are chosen based on their service in the field or contributions to medical education or research and other criteria.

The Association of American Medical Colleges announced the 2019 recipients of the association’s annual awards, which honor individuals and institutions making significant contributions to medical education, research, clinical care, and community engagement. N. Kevin Krane, MD (M ’77), vice dean for academic affairs and professor of medicine, received an Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award for his “ability to lead and collaborate, which ensured Tulane medical students and faculty were quickly able to resume their work after Hurricane Katrina, [and] his passion for innovation that has led to thoughtful curricular reforms that have helped students keep up with the rapid proliferation of information.”
