The New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University moves to Oct. 21-23
The New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University announced new dates today for its 2021 festival. The three-day event will now take place in-person, Oct. 21-23, on Tulane’s uptown campus. The top priority of festival organizers is the health and safety of everyone in attendance, as well as the New Orleans community. The 2021 festival will adhere to city, state and national COVID-19 protocols.
The 2021 book festival was originally scheduled to run March 18-20 but has been rescheduled with the hope of hosting an in-person event. Details and the author line up for the 2021 book festival will be released at a later date.
The New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University will also host several virtual events over the course of the spring and summer heading into the 2021 fall festival. Details of these programs will be released in the coming weeks.
“This will be a celebration of literacy with a diverse and exciting lineup featuring national and local authors.”
- Walter Isaacson
“After a disappointing cancellation in 2020, we are excited to be back with the 2021 presentation of the New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University,” said Cheryl Landrieu, co-chair and executive director of the festival. “This event promises to be an exciting and engaging literary gathering for our local, national and Tulane communities. We can’t wait to welcome authors and book lovers to campus.”
“A major literary and ideas festival is a fitting addition to the New Orleans cultural calendar and Tulane University,” said co-chair, best-selling author and Tulane professor Walter Isaacson. “This will be a celebration of literacy with a diverse and exciting lineup featuring national and local authors.”
The inaugural book festival was set to take place March 19-21, 2020. However, organizers were forced to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the cancelation, many of the confirmed authors expressed a strong desire to return in 2021.
Prior to its cancelation, more than 100 renowned and rising authors, including 15 award-winning children’s authors, were committed to the inaugural festival, which included the festivals’ first Family Day event. Along with the all-star lineup of authors, the one-of-a-kind book festival planned to feature a distinct New Orleans flavor with live jazz music, cooking presentations from several top chefs and some of the Crescent City’s most colorful authors and political figures.
