“It was everything we love about college football — everything we love about sports. Tulane, the small private school in New Orleans that quit the SEC nearly six decades ago, returned to a major bowl game for the first time in 83 years [to] beat USC, one of the sport’s most historic programs.”
“Huge win for the program, huge win for the university, huge win for the city,” said football Head Coach Willie Fritz after the historic Cotton Bowl win. Fritz led Tulane to an FBS-record nine-win turnaround after going 2-10 last season.
Tulane’s shocking 46-45 upset of USC in the Cotton Bowl was met with a cathartic reaction from the significant contingent of Green Wave fans who made the nearly 500-mile trip from New Orleans to Dallas.
With the help of a National Institutes of Health grant, researchers at Tulane will conduct a five-year study with local churches to combat high blood pressure among congregants within the Black community.
