The American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 provides a template for healthy living, a stronger heart, and a roadmap to a longer life. According to a Tulane study, participants who adhered to the AHA’s Life’s Essential 8 had an average of 8.9 more years of life expectancy at age 50 compared to those who didn’t adhere to the guidance. Dr. Lu Qi, professor of epidemiology and director of the Tulane University Obesity Research Center, is lead study author.

Fifteen first- and second-year international students from China, Colombia, India and Turkey spent a week learning about Mexican culture in the Bay of Banderas region during spring break. The program, organized by the Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) Center for Global Education, encouraged students to think critically about how their experience enhanced their understanding of Mexico as international learners.
