The Summer Lyric Theatre will present “Bandstand” on Thursday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Dixon Hall. Set in 1945, “Bandstand” is about Private First Class Donny Novitski, who is also a singer and songwriter, and his return home after the war. He eventually joins a group of fellow veterans for a national swing band competition. “Bandstand” follows Novitski and the group’s journey through complicated relationships, the demands of the competition and the challenging after-effects of war.
