Tulane will train a new generation of quantum engineers in advanced computing and communications technologies thanks to a $4.8 million grant awarded by the Department of Energy’s RENEW Initiative. Tulane is part of a seven-university consortium that was awarded the grant. Through the initiative’s funding, the School of Science and Engineering will develop a quantum engineering certificate for undergraduates, which includes developing several new courses and adding new quantum modules to existing laboratory courses.

According to the annual California Violence Experiences Survey, 5% of adults had experienced physical violence in the past year, but the rates for non-binary and transgender individuals were notably higher — 14% and 27% respectively. The Tulane Women’s Prison Project (WPP) has been named an honoree of the “Champions of Change” Award by Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response (STAR), a nonprofit organization based in Baton Rouge dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual trauma, improving systems response and creating social change to end sexual violence. The Newcomb Department of Music will celebrate the life of Professor Emeritus B. Michael Howard on Sunday, Sept. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Dixon Hall. The celebration will feature a choir of former students and Summer Lyric Theatre performers, along with readings and performances in Howard’s honor. Howard joined the faculty of the Newcomb Department of Music in 1978 and served as the artistic director of Summer Lyric Theatre from 1997 until 2014.
