Commons ground

Tulane University President Michael Fitts, left, and Chief Operating Officer Patrick Norton place objects in one of two time capsules during The Commons groundbreaking ceremony held in the 1834 Club in the Lavin-Bernick Center for Community Life. The Wednesday afternoon event was well attended by Tulane donors, administration, faculty and staff excited about the 77,000-square-foot structure, which will create both a new dining facility for the uptown campus as well as a consolidated setting for the Newcomb College Institute. In addition to other items, the two capsules each contain a print of The Commons architectural rendering with signatures from guests who were in attendance.
