For the second year in a row, School of Medicine students celebrated Match Day virtually. Members of the Class of 2021 matched with residency programs across the country, and 30 students will be staying in Louisiana for the next chapter of their medical careers.

Lee D. Baker, cultural anthropologist at Duke University, will speak at the next Dean’s Speaker Series on Anti-Racism and the Disciplines, an initiative of the School of Liberal Arts, on Tuesday, March 30, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. The School of Architecture will host the annual Mary W. and Arthur Q. Davis Lecture on Human Inhabitation and Equity on Monday, March 29, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. The lecture will be presented by Bryan Lee, Jr., designer principal and founder of Colloqate Design and a national Design Justice advocate. Following his presentation, Lee will be joined in conversation by Craig Barton, architecture professor and university architect at Brown University, and Edson Cabalfin, associate dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, director of the Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Program and professor of Design Thinking at the Tulane School of Architecture. American Heart Association News Joshua Bundy, epidemiologist at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, led a study that found 2 million cases of heart attacks, stroke and heart failure can be prevented yearly if U.S. adults follow the American Heart Association’s “Life’s Simple 7 metrics.”
NPR Dr. Rachel Levine, School of Medicine alumna, was confirmed as assistant secretary of health at the Department of Health and Human Services, becoming the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the Senate.
Forbes Jeff Schiffman, director of admission at Tulane, says there is not a specific extracurricular activity that is preferred by colleges, and it is not necessary for students’ resumes to mimic an adult’s.
The 74 Million Douglas Harris and Matthew Larsen of the Education Research Alliance for New Orleans at Tulane co-authored a study that found the charter school education reforms implemented after Hurricane Katrina increased student achievement, high school graduation rates and college graduation rates.
